Picture of the Century

A long time ago in a world now seemingly far from ours, a fragile robot beamed back what was called "The Picture of the Century" (see below).




(Images taken by that fragile robot, and others, by the way, are undergoing a process of restoration, revealing new details, which can be used to see how the unchanging Moon has changed since the 1960's. See another image below.)



Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day might very well be the new Picture of the Century. Our home pebble, rising over the pebble we call the Moon. Maybe every politician should get a copy of this image to remind her or him how fragile a basket we keep our eggs in.
