In the Streaming Stars
Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day shows Messier 83 in the constellation of Hydra. After Messier 83 encountered another (smaller) galaxy), vast quantities of material was thrown off as a "tidal stream". This can be seen above the body of the galaxy, an arc stretching across the top of the frame.
